Go Gajet

I have a raft of blog posts in my head but I’m not done with the drags yet, so to speak, especially since I’ve finally finished processing all. This is one of my favourite sequences of the day. A racer called Gajet living up to the name (this is him I believe). The composition and motion blur are shocking and I’m fairly sure the hot, saturated processing will make your eyes burn. But that was how the scene came across, the bike screaming by where I was planted halfway down quarter mile, setting my hair on fire before disappearing past to the finish.

I really need to go back for more.

Day out at the drags

Drags -42

No lack of boys’ toys on this blog, this time on the track. A few weekends ago I was invited to a private race meet down at the Motorplex in Kwinana. Never been to the drags, or the Motorplex, so I jumped at the opportunity, especially since it offered an “access all areas” pass too. Score!

Among other things, I learnt in this time that they spray an adhesive on the track to allow for better grip, that burnouts aren’t all for show, and it’s holy freaking expensive to run a Nitro car. And also not to stand downwind of a Top Fuel vehicle when it’s doing a burnout because the fumes will make you cry, literally! .

Mud Guts and Glory Rocks 2009

Last weekend I hit Albany Highway down to Pingelly for Mud Guts and Glory Rocks, to witness some crazy rock crawling 4WD action. I also got to meet Mr Ecomuse himself, Graham Cahill, who shoots for 4WD Action – one of the country’s biggest 4WD mags – among other publications, and has a charmed working life all around. Star struck? Yep :D

I had just as great a time spectating with a rather expressive crowd as I did shooting, despite the less than ideal weather. Here are some photos from a really large set, which you can view in entirety on flickr.

Muddy Day Out

I had meant to take a day trip down to Manjimup for the Manjimup 15000 yesterday. A whole bunch of things happened that kept me from doing it, so we ended up heading out to Sawyer’s Valley with a mate instead.

Along the way, we came across a group with a couple of ‘Cruisers having fun in a shallow mud pit. I always bring a camera on these days out, and it paid off today!

Natural Terrain Moto Cross 2009

On Saturday we went to the Natural Terrain Moto Cross held at Tumblegum Farm. Saturday was the junior’s round, but it was pretty exciting as there are a lot of young people out there who can do some phenomenal things with machines. Some picks out of the rather large set on flickr:.
