Trees

Day 48 of 100, Hannover, Germany

I may have mentioned the forest in Hannover before. About a 20 minute walk from the hauptbahnhof (central train station), it was my first encounter with a European forest, in 2013. It is imbued with all the charm that fairytales accord forests: light filtering green and gold through its canopy, the regular vibrations of a modern city hushed when you step inside its boundaries. Even in the cold, when leaves sink to its floor in moulting slumber, it is life-giving; a marvel.

I started making pictures of trees for no good reason, during daily walks. I’m not sure what it is I’m looking for, or if I am looking for anything at all except to revel in the rootedness of trees to earth.
