Charlene was born and raised in Singapore, and has spent more than two decades living, working and travelling extensively elsewhere in the world.

She came to photography after graduating in Communication and Cultural Studies from Murdoch University (Perth, Australia), buying a long desired camera with the first pay cheque from her first “real job.” Since then, she’s been travelling the world, making pictures in Iraq, Mexico, Denmark, the United States, and across many other borders. Charlene has turned her camera professionally to events, humanitarian work, and the streets.

In 2020, Charlene and photographer Marie Dailey started Women In Street Singapore (IG / FB), a community of women street photographers in (you guessed it!) Singapore.

Charlene and Australian poet Eileen Chong published Map-Making, a collaborative book of poetry and photography, in 2018.

Charlene is a Fujifilm X Series ambassador, and uses Fujifilm equipment for both stills and video work. She is also sponsored by Goecker, and Simplr Straps.
